What the...?

I had a thought this evening. Basically it amounted to me questioning my sanity. Am I completely mad to be doing this?

I quickly came to the assumption that, yes, I am indeed totally, and utterly insane. With that decided, I continued on my mad endeavour.

Things are becoming touch and go, with a still-vacant spot on Wednesday, and a cancellation for Friday the 4th which gave me a minor panic attack this afternoon. But just as quickly the roller coaster turned, and Saturday was filled as well as a couple of new leads popping up.

No one ever said this dating thing would be easy.

And so it begins. As I look out my window, I see the sun going down on June and my nice quiet life. Tomorrow dawn will break over a month of madness.

And the countdown begins

With just over a week to go until it all kicks off, the mental and physical preparation has begun.

That means getting in some early nights (physical) and trying to tone down my 'quirky' behaviour so as not to completely scare my volunteers off in the first five minutes (mental).

Along with all of this, I'm still pitching to fill vacant spots. More and more there is a fear growing in the back of my mind that I may well not be able to fill all the days.

But if you don't try these things, you never find out. And so I keep pushing on.

Statistics Back Hypothesis

A statistic I heard recently said if you are over 30 and single, there is an 80% chance that you will end up with someone who is either, already in your phone or address book; or currently in that of one of your friends.

It makes you think, doesn't it.

Time Out Gets Onboard

In conjunction with The Great Dating Escapade - London's iconic 'what's on' magazine has this week produced a feature titled 'Things to do in London for under a Tenner'. This could very well be THE guide of reference for our twenty wonderful participants.

Is Romance Dead? Or is it Just Me?

I'm going to try and find out.

I'm researching for what may become a literary piece but this time I'm really rolling up my sleeves and getting my hands dirty. Figuratively.

July is going to see me carry out what I believe to be the ultimate dating challenge.

See, I'm the first to admit, I'm sceptical about this whole romance rubbish. But perhaps before I completely wash my hands of it, I should really give it a good go. Just so when I am 75 and surrounded by cats and newspapers, I can sit on my couch which is covered in plastic and think 'well, at least I gave it a shot'.

So this July, I am going to attempt 20 dates in 20 days.

Now anyone can jump online and set that up. But time and time again I hear people say 'the way to meet him is through your friends'.

Well, I'm putting that to the test.

I'm asking my friends to help me line up a date for every day, from the 1st of July to the 20th. Surely you have at least one nice single friend who might be willing to be set up, in the name of research?

The challenge details:

The chosen male shall be tasked to choose the date. This is where I ask for a large helping of creativity. Not only do I want to find out if there are actually 20 single men in London, but I want to find 20 great things to do in London on a date.

The financials:

We split everything, and here is the catch: the date must cost only a maximum of 20 pounds.

So there we have it. Crazy? I know.
